Other Ocean Interactive, founded by Andrew Ayre in 2006, is a video-game developer whose work includes original titles, licensed projects, remasters, and co-development. Its catalogue moves between small-format downloadable games, console releases, virtual reality, and social multiplayer design. This breadth is visible in games as different as Dark Void Zero, #IDARB, Project Winter, and the PlayStation 4 remake of MediEvil. Other Ocean has operated studios in Emeryville, California, and St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, making its history a cross-border North American one. Released by Capcom for Nintendo DSiWare in 2010, Dark Void Zero recast Capcom's Dark Void setting as an intentionally 8-bit side-scrolling action game. Rather than adapting the main Dark Void directly, Other Ocean created a separate story about Rusty, who is stranded after a Bermuda Triangle incident and fights the alien Watchers. Its jetpack is central to the game's movement and combat. The title was presented as a fictional lost game from 1987, using visual and audio conventions associated with the Nintendo Entertainment System while taking advantage of the DSiWare platform. Other Ocean's #IDARB, short for "It Draws a Red Box," became one of its best-known original projects. Designed by Mike Mika, it began from a simple red-box concept and became a fast, team-based competitive game for Xbox One. Players pass, jump, score, and use a ball in matches that mix platforming and sports-game rules. A defining feature was its use of Twitter: viewers could send designated "hashbomb" commands that affected ongoing matches, allowing an audience to influence play. #IDARB launched on Xbox One in 2015 and was among the games promoted through Microsoft's ID@Xbox program. The studio later developed Project Winter, a multiplayer survival and social-deception game released on Steam in 2019. In its core format, eight players must collect resources, repair objectives, and try to escape a frozen wilderness, while hidden traitors work to stop the group. Communication, cooperation, sabotage, and uncertainty are fundamental to its design. Other Ocean also contributed to the 2019 MediEvil remake for PlayStation 4, revisiting the 1998 PlayStation game about Sir Daniel Fortesque. The remake retained the original's Gallowmere setting and skeletal, accidentally celebrated hero while rebuilding the game for modern hardware.
