A deck that focuses on black mana symbols and has a high devotion to black would benefit from using Gray Merchant of Asphodel, as it can drain a significant amount of life from opponents and gain you life in return. This card is particularly powerful in mono-black or black-heavy decks, where it can be a game-ending finisher. While there are other cards that offer similar effects, such as Kokusho, the Evening Star or Exsanguinate, Gray Merchant of Asphodel is still a strong choice in the right deck and should definitely see play in decks that can maximize its potential.
