About Decree of Pain

Decree of Pain, Sorcery, designed by Mathias Kollros first released in May, 2020 in the set Magic Online Promos and was printed exactly in 12 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of $ 0.19.

A control deck that aims to wipe the board of creatures and draw cards would benefit from using Decree of Pain, especially in a meta with creature-heavy strategies. While Decree of Pain is a powerful board wipe with card draw potential, some may argue that cards like Damnation or Wrath of God offer similar effects at a lower cost, making them potentially better options depending on the deck's strategy and mana curve. Decree of Pain could see play in certain control or midrange decks looking for a versatile board wipe with card advantage.

Cycling is an activated ability. Effects that interact with activated abilities (such as Stifle or Rings of Brighthearth) will interact with cycling. Effects that interact with spells (such as Remove Soul or Faerie Tauntings) will not.

The cycling ability and the triggered ability are separate. If the triggered ability doesn’t resolve (due to being countered with Stifle, for example, or if all its targets have become illegal), the cycling ability will still resolve and you’ll draw a card.
