This card, Expunge, would be beneficial in a black control deck that aims to remove key threats from the opponent's board. However, there are better options like Doom Blade or Go for the Throat which offer more versatility in terms of target selection. Expunge could see play in specific metagames where nonartifact, nonblack creatures are prevalent, but overall, it may not be a top choice for competitive play due to its limited scope of effectiveness.

Cycling is an activated ability. Effects that interact with activated abilities (such as Stifle or Rings of Brighthearth) will interact with cycling. Effects that interact with spells (such as Remove Soul or Faerie Tauntings) will not.
