Heart Pirates

The Heart Pirates are a pirate crew in *One Piece* led by Trafalgar D. Water Law. Their yellow submarine, the Polar Tang, lets them travel beneath the sea rather than relying only on a conventional sailing ship. Among the crew are Bepo, a polar bear Mink who serves as navigator, and the longtime members Shachi and Penguin.

The crew first appears during the Sabaody Archipelago arc, when Law is introduced as one of the eleven rookie pirates known as the Worst Generation. There, the Heart Pirates gain Jean Bart, a former pirate captain who had been enslaved by a Celestial Dragon. After the battle at Marineford, Law brings the Polar Tang into the war zone to rescue the gravely wounded Monkey D. Luffy and Jinbe. He treats Luffy aboard the submarine, and the crew carries both patients away from the Marines.

Two years later, Law forms an alliance with Luffy’s Straw Hat Pirates. While Law pursues Caesar Clown on Punk Hazard and confronts Donquixote Doflamingo on Dressrosa, other Heart Pirates members wait on Zou. That separation matters when the allied crews reunite: Law’s campaign against Doflamingo is part of a wider plan to undermine Kaido, whose forces depend on the artificial Devil Fruits produced through Caesar’s work.

The Heart Pirates subsequently join the alliance opposing Kaido in Wano. During the raid on Onigashima, the Polar Tang proves useful in a crisis. After Kaido knocks Luffy into the sea, members of Law’s crew recover him from the water. Law goes on to fight alongside Eustass Kid against Big Mom, while his crew remains part of the wider operation that brings down Kaido’s regime.

After leaving Wano, the Heart Pirates encounter the Blackbeard Pirates near Winner Island. Blackbeard attacks Law in pursuit of the Road Poneglyph rubbings held by the crews that departed Wano. The Heart Pirates fight back, using their ability to operate at sea against opponents whose Devil Fruit powers make the water dangerous. They are defeated, however, and the Polar Tang is destroyed.

Bepo prevents Law’s capture by taking medicine prepared by Tony Tony Chopper, allowing him to enter his Sulong form without the usual full moon. He carries Law away through the water. Their escape leaves the fate of the other Heart Pirates uncertain at that point in the story, a sharp reversal for a crew whose submarine and skill in the sea had repeatedly kept them alive.
