This Jeskai Student card would be a great fit for a deck focused on casting a lot of noncreature spells to trigger its Prowess ability and pump up its power. It could work well in a tempo or control deck that aims to disrupt the opponent while building up a strong board presence. However, there are potentially better options like Monastery Swiftspear or Soul-Scar Mage that offer similar abilities with more immediate impact, making Jeskai Student less likely to see competitive play in most decks.

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
