GGWP is a game-moderation technology company that provides tools for detecting and managing harmful player behavior in online games.

Edit reference

GGWP is a game-moderation technology company founded in 2020 by Dennis Fong, a former professional Quake player known as “Thresh” and the founder of Xfire. The company’s stated purpose is to help multiplayer-game studios address disruptive player behavior with software rather than relying solely on human review. Its work is specifically aimed at live games, where chat, player reports, and behavioral signals can arrive at a scale that makes manual moderation difficult.

GGWP’s platform applies machine learning and natural-language processing to in-game communications and player-behavior data. It is designed to identify categories such as toxicity, harassment, hate speech, threats, spam, and other conduct that can violate a game’s community rules. The company describes its system as providing real-time insights, reporting tools, and automated or assisted moderation workflows. That positioning distinguishes it from a general social-media moderation service: GGWP presents its product around the operational needs of game developers and live-operations teams.

The company has also framed moderation as a design and retention issue, not only a safety function. Its public materials emphasize that bad player experiences can drive people away from multiplayer titles and burden customer-support or community teams. Accordingly, GGWP offers dashboards and data intended to show trends in player behavior and to help studios evaluate the effects of enforcement policies. Developers can use those signals to review incidents, prioritize reports, and tailor actions to their own games’ rules.

GGWP attracted outside investment as it developed this approach. In 2022, the company announced a US$10 million Series A financing led by Griffin Gaming Partners. Investors named in coverage of the round included Makers Fund, BITKRAFT Ventures, and Courtside Ventures. The financing followed earlier backing and was intended to support product development and expansion of the company’s moderation offering.

Fong’s connection to competitive games is central to GGWP’s public identity. Before the company, he became widely recognized in the 1990s through Quake competition, then founded Xfire, a gaming communications and social-network service. GGWP’s name itself uses the common gaming expression “good game, well played,” while its business addresses one of the less sporting realities of online play: harmful interactions among players.

Rather than claiming to replace community managers, GGWP has described its technology as a way to give studios more information and automation for decisions that are otherwise costly to make at scale. The company’s focus on game-specific moderation, behavioral analytics, and live-service workflows places it within the market for trust-and-safety infrastructure.
