Edit reference

Scryfall is a specialized search engine and public data service for Magic: The Gathering, the collectible card game published by Wizards of the Coast. Its website lets users locate cards across Magic sets, printings, promotional releases, and digital products through a query language built for card research. Searches can target names, types, Oracle text, mana costs, rarity, artists, set codes, formats, color identity, and legal status. This is particularly valuable because Magic cards are frequently reprinted with changed artwork, frames, collector numbers, or availability. Scryfall separates a game card from its individual printings, making those differences visible to collectors worldwide. On each card page, Scryfall supplies structured details such as the current Oracle wording, mana cost, type line, rules text, power and toughness or loyalty where applicable, set and collector number, artist credit, and format legality. Oracle text is Wizards of the Coast’s maintained reference wording; showing it alongside older printings helps users identify rules updates without confusing them with original printed text. The site also links related printings and records whether a card is available in paper, Magic Online, or Arena. The presentation includes images and treatments, when available, such as borderless, showcase, extended art, and retro frame versions. Scryfall also publishes a REST API allowing software to retrieve card objects in JSON. Developers can use endpoints for a named card, a random card, search results, card collections, sets, catalogs, rulings, symbols, and bulk-data metadata. Search responses are paginated and include links for pages. The API’s card objects expose identifiers, image URIs when available, legalities, prices, cards, and foreign-language printings. Scryfall’s Bulk Data page provides downloadable files for large-scale use including the Oracle Cards, Unique Artwork, Default Cards, and All Cards datasets. Those releases make it possible to build deck tools, collection managers, statistical projects, or offline lookup applications locally. Scryfall’s interface is not a name index. Its syntax supports exact-name queries, regular expressions, Boolean combinations, comparison operators, and qualifiers such as `is:commander`, `f:modern`, or `id:wu`. A player can therefore ask for a blue-white card legal in Modern or find cards whose Oracle text contains a specified phrase. The service publishes search-syntax documentation and an API reference, helping users reproduce a result in a browser or program. Scryfall states that it is not produced by, endorsed by, supported by, or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast. Magic card names, imagery, and intellectual property remain associated with their respective rights holders.
