Riftbound: Deck Tech - Holding Rumble

Holding Rumble is a tribal list that centers around getting stats for free while you defend a battlefield. It is, by far, one of the weakest lists in the game, but it is very fun and has a lot of potential.

Rumble struggles a lot because he is considered a very weak Legend from Set 2. Currently, there aren't enough Mech cards to make him work in competitive settings. Still, we can build a consistent deck with him centered around holding battlefields that gets stats for free constantly because of its Mech effects.

Before we begin, however, let me introduce myself. My name is Total, and I used to cast Legends of Runeterra tournaments professionally. I covered all the official tournaments, including Worlds, and I am known for creating deck guides for LoR as well. Now, I am a part of the Riftbound community!

Holding Rumble - Free Stats All The Time

Deck Code:

The main idea behind this deck is to hold battlefields with your main champion, Rumble - Scrapper. You must protect him with your spells and build a solid, extensive defense while he feeds your base with tokens.

This list is great at defending battlefields and is also quite solid at reconquering them. However, because it can't draw that many cards and starts out really slow, it struggles to compete with the other meta decks. They're simply faster and more consistent.

Keep in mind that this deck is great at defending enemy attacks, not removal spells. If your units are removed, you'll hardly be able to come back into the match. They simply need each other. If you lose your main champion early on, you'll also struggle.

So, you must only attack your opponent after you build a strong board and get enough resources to protect your units in the following turn.

Legend - Rumble Mechanized Menace

Your Legend's effect determines your game style. As a result, this deck is built around holding battlefields.

This simple effect seems weak on paper, but, in practice, it will save you a lot, particularly in decks centered around combat.

Think of this effect as a slightly different Master Yi. The difference is that, to get 100% out of it, you must have at least 2 Mechs defending the board. So, use this as a starting point. One Mech defending is not enough.

Main Champion - Rumble - Scrapper

This is the most important card in this list, and, without it and its aura, you can't compete with enemy attacks.

As we've already discussed, you must defend your units at all costs, particularly this champion. You must hold battlefields with it to summon a Mech token in your base.

If you're successful, you'll get many Mech units with 4 Might. They'll help you defend your battlefield and consequently set up a snowball.

Battlefields

Fortified Position is your main battlefield. It will help you get even more stats so that you can face your opponent. The only problem is that, as this deck is slow, you'll give your opponent time to dominate this battlefield before you can and establish a strong defense with its effect.

Trifarian War Camp is interesting in this list because it centers around playing lots of units and nothing else.

Zaun Warrens is a bit counterintuitive, but it is strong in conquering decks. Nonetheless, its effect fixes this list's biggest problem: card draw. This battlefield can improve your hand early on in case you don't draw well.

Main Cards

Early Game

The main idea early on is to set up a strong attack with your main champion. So, you should always try to go second so that you can access your Rumble - Scrapper on turn 2.

Ravenbloom Student is one of the best support units at this time, even more so if you equip it with Experimental Hexplate.

Use Production Surge for its full cost, and don't discount it, to kickstart your main game plan whenever necessary.

Mid Game

At this moment, you must be careful because you need to defend your units and still keep some cards in hand.

Use Stupefy to keep your hand full and Danger Zone to defend your units. Always plan ahead so that you can use your Danger Zone's extra effect and make sure you won't lose your board.

Usually, Ferrous Forerunner comes in at this point and becomes an important piece on your side of the board. In the best-case scenario, you'll play this card directly on the battlefield you're defending.

Late Game

Because this deck doesn't draw much, it plays many cards that can be finishers. Darius - Trifarian is one of these cards. It will help you retake a battlefield or conquer twice.

Breakneck Mech will help you move your entire board directly from one battlefield to the next. Afterward, it can conquer the empty battlefield that remains.

Bubble Bot and Gem Jammer also work as finishers. They'll help you conquer twice whenever necessary.

Matchups

This deck struggles against most popular meta lists because it doesn't answer well to direct removals or purple combat spells.

So, Kai'Sa, Draven, Ezreal, and Annie are terrible matchups for this list. You'll need to set up a very solid board before you try to move forward. Unchecked Power destroys your deck on the spot, and it is the best card to deal with this archetype.

Against Miracle Sivir or Missfortune, your chances are better because these decks center around combat. It will still be difficult.

Against Fiora, Rek'Sai, Lucian, and Jax, you'll often have an advantage because you can defend yourself from their units.

Irelia matchups are difficult, and both of you can win. Nonetheless, Irelia will have an advantage early on. It can't stop the snowball you'll create, but you also won't be able to stop its combo. So, you'll both be running against time.

Against yellow lists, you'll be fairly matched. You must play Gem Jammer and Bubble Bot early on or in the mid game so that you can keep your board full and play around removals in control lists even more.

Important Tips and Sideboard

Detonate is interesting against Rat Ezreal and Ornn, Lucian, Fiora, and particularly Irelia. With it, you'll be able to destroy enemy equipment.

Against the Odds is great against Miracle and Draven overall because it "protects" a unit from attacks with several units.

Void Seeker is also a strong tech against Rat Ezreal. With it, you can kill the RAT.

Thousand-Tailed Watcher replaces Breakneck Mech when you're playing against many removals and can't keep your Mechs on the board at the end of the game.
