Players! For those who don't know me, my name is Romeu, known in Magic Online as ImpatienTraveller and together with Leonardo (Bukareste) and Heitor (hanzes), we are the organizers of the Pauper Masters tournament.

Firstly, I'm writing this article to announce that the Pauper Masters will have a second season, starting in July, with the Qualifiers beggining on July 30th and running through November 27th, with the championship taking place on December 5th !

However, before getting into this subject, I consider it important to comment on and share our experience so far.

For those who don't know, the Pauper Masters is a project made by players for players, which started in November 2017 and whose objective was to promote the Pauper scene in Rio de Janeiro, where there were many players and communities spread across different parts of the city, but that there was no event that could bring them together in one place.

In these years of existence, we have promoted several Pauper events in stores, held qualifiers for the LATAM Series and the Brazilian Paupr Nationals, and considering the pandemic, we could form an incredible partnership with Card Realm to create the circuit Pauper Masters Online, and create an event that can, in the world of Magic Online, bring players together to play a competitive event made by players for players.

I confess that, before the start of the first Pauper Masters Qualifier, we were nervous.

We have countless stories we could tell of all kinds of stuff that happened in our events, and how they shaped a lot of the way we've sought to run our tournaments since then, but promoting events online was a new platform, a new audience, a new experience, and obviously, it brought new challenges.

We had initial difficulties, but we could count on a lot of support from the CardsRealm team, and also from great event hosts like Tiago Fuguete and Raphael Martinez, who helped us keep the event organized, plan the best possibilities, work new ideas, among other things.

And honestly, I don't know what I would do without that support, otherwise I would never have been able to announce that, now that we've reached the end of season one, Pauper Masters Online has been a success!

In all, the Pauper Masters circuit had 185 registered players, 370 Tix of prize distributed among all events and even motivating players to join Magic Online, as the player FSoeiro commented to us. I feel the event achieved its main goals.

Also, despite not being in our initial plans, we ended up becoming part of something much bigger on the tournament circuits of Cards Realm and other servers with the partnerships we've created with other events and organizations, serving as a connection between events and among the players involved in these events.

Therefore, I would like to deeply thank all the players, events and contributors who made the first season of Pauper Masters Online a success.

The Second Season

So, we're here to announce that Pauper Masters Online will have a second season starting in July 2021 and running through December 2021!

And we'd like to start by announcing our two sponsors:

Cards Realm will be sponsoring the second season of the Pauper Masters events and will be giving away free entries for the Pauper Masters Qualifiers to various events that take place on their website.

It's important to mention that, unlike last season, all the events mentioned below will have a free entry for the champion, which means that there will no longer be events giving entries to the Top 2!

The reason for this change is our decision to cover more events and open up more opportunities for players to get their free entries throughout the week. Opening up a wider range of tournaments for players who cannot participate in events that previously had two entries, in addition to making them egalitarian and fair in terms of being part of the Pauper Masters Online circuit.

These events are:

NOTE: Keep in mind that all the times mentioned in the article are in Brazilian Time Zone. (GMT -3)

The Pauper Masters Qualifier

Image content of the Website

The Pauper Masters Qualifier is the gateway to participating in Pauper Masters Online.

The second season of the event will take place monthly from July 30, 2021, always on the last Saturday of the month.

In addition to the players being able to get entries in the above events, players can also register for the Qualifiers: The event registration fee will be 2 TIX, with 1 tix going towards the championship prize pool, while the other 1 tix will be used for the Qualifier prize pool and will be proportionally distributed among the Top 8 players.

Events will be run in Swiss rounds, having a maximum of 6 rounds.

In addition to the Tix prize pool, the TOP 4 of each Qualifier will be qualified at no additional cost to the Pauper Masters Online, totaling 24 players at the end of the qualifiers.

Qualified players will also be able to continue to participate in Qualifiers if they so choose. However, if they make the Top 4, they will only receive the proportional prize for the event and the spot for the main event in question will be transferred to the next place in the list that does not have the spot yet. For example, if you are already classified, but took first place in the event, you will receive the proportional tix for the first place of the day and your spot will be transferred to the fifth place.

The entire event will be held via the Cards Realmlink outside website, so I recommend that interested players create an account on the site to be able to register their decklists and be part of our matching system.

Players must register for the tournament and request one of the organizers via the Discordlink outside website or MTGO to make the payment. The player will have the "ok" regarding the registration when making the payment.

Ad

Players with free registrations receive confirmation of payment automatically by the organization.

The event organization always gets the entry fees on the day of the event.

The player must also present the decklist within five minutes before the start of the event or will be dropped from it, needing to request reimbursement of his registration later to the organization if he has already done so.

Players who received free entries will not receive a refund as their entry will not be used.

The dates for the Pauper Masters Qualifiers will be on the following days:

July 31st

August 28th

September 25th

October 30

And the Last Chance Qualifier, which this time will be giving places to the Pauper Masters Online for the entire TOP 8, will take place on 27 November.

All Qualifiers will always take place on the last Saturday of the month at 13:00!

We have an extensive RULEBOOKlink outside website, read it so that no doubts occur, and feel free to call us on Discord, if you have any questions!

The Pauper Masters Online

Pauper Masters Online #2 will take place on Sunday December 5, and only 24 classified players will be able to participate and considering only the free entries made by our sponsors and assuming that all players who receive entries play in the tournaments , the event's prize pool already has at least 140 Tix!

It is important to emphasize that places for this tournament are non-transferable.

The event will be Swiss, with four rounds and the Top 8 games will be taking place on the same day.

Qualified players must register for the event, where there will be a queue for organizers to confirm their seats.

Once this is done, the player will have up to five minutes before the start of the event to post their decklist. If they don't, the player will be dropped.

Conclusion

This was the presentation of the second season of Pauper Masters Online!

First, we appreciate the support from our sponsors, but mostly from the players who helped us make our first edition a great success.

As I used to say constantly at our face-to-face events, we wouldn't exist if it weren't for the players, and the Pauper Masters would never have been more than an idea in my notepad if it weren't for all the players, retailers, sponsors and websites that made this trajectory a reality.

Our primary goal will always be to promote Pauper, and the time has come to unify not only the Brazilian community around the passion for the format, but now to bring the whole world closer to each other to create a more meaningful community and make the increasingly relevant format for Brazil and also for the world.

And I really hope that you can continue to support us and support the format that the entire community fought hard to get the recognition it has today.

Thanks, and see you on July 31st for the first Pauper Masters Qualifier of the new season!
