Modiphius Entertainment is a British tabletop-game publisher founded in 2012 by Chris Birch. The company became especially visible through licensed roleplaying games and board games built around established science-fiction, fantasy, horror, video-game, film, and television properties. Its work is closely associated with the 2d20 System, a rules engine in which players roll twenty-sided dice, count successes against a target number, and often generate a shared resource called Momentum that can improve later actions. One of Modiphius's early major projects was Achtung! Cthulhu, a horror setting combining the Second World War with H. P. Lovecraft's Mythos. The line initially supported several game systems, including Call of Cthulhu and Savage Worlds, before Modiphius published its own 2d20 version. The publisher later used 2d20 for a licensed Conan roleplaying game, beginning with Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of. Its Conan line drew on Robert E. Howard's Hyborian Age and included regional sourcebooks, adventures, campaign material, and the two-volume Conan: The Book of Skelos. In 2017, Modiphius released Star Trek Adventures, its roleplaying game set in the Star Trek universe. The game lets players portray Starfleet officers and uses rules for starship crews as well as individual characters. Modiphius supported it with era sourcebooks, mission compilations, living-campaign material, miniatures, and supplements covering series and settings across the franchise. In 2022, the company announced Star Trek Adventures' second edition, which was subsequently released using an updated version of the system. Modiphius also published Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, based on Frank Herbert's Dune novels. The game focuses on political conflict, noble houses, intrigue, warfare, and the pressure of life in the Imperium rather than treating its setting solely as a combat adventure. Its core book was released in 2020, and the line has included House Secrets, Agents of Dune, and The Great Game: Houses of the Landsraad. Other prominent licenses include Fallout, Dishonored, John Carter of Mars, Homeworld, The Elder Scrolls, and the 1980s military-horror property Mutant Chronicles. Fallout: The Roleplaying Game uses the 2d20 System and is based on Bethesda's Fallout video-game setting. Modiphius has also produced Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, a tabletop skirmish game using collectible-style miniatures, terrain, cards, and narrative scenarios. Beyond roleplaying books, the company has published miniature games, board games, campaign supplements, dice, maps, and accessories. Its catalogue demonstrates a sustained strategy of adapting recognizable fictional worlds into tabletop formats while maintaining in-house rules systems and long-term product lines.
