Nighthawk Interactive is a video game publisher associated with bringing older games to modern platforms. One of its best-known releases is *Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King*, published in 2019 and developed by Digital Eclipse. Rather than creating a new Aladdin or Lion King adventure, the release assembled versions of games originally made during the 1990s, when Disney films were frequently adapted for home consoles and handhelds.

The collection’s Aladdin material centers on the game originally released for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Its version of *The Lion King* draws on the 1994 game released for systems including the Genesis and Super Nintendo. These are distinct adaptations of two Disney films, not chapters of a single game. The collection gave players ways to revisit different releases and revisions, while adding conveniences such as save states and a rewind feature. It also included archival material connected with the games’ development. Those features made the publication more than a straightforward rerelease of two old cartridges: it presented the games alongside tools for playing and examining them today.

Nighthawk Interactive subsequently published *Disney Classic Games Collection* in 2021, again with Digital Eclipse as developer. This expanded release added material based on *The Jungle Book*, another Disney film that received multiple video game adaptations. It also brought in the Super Nintendo version of *Aladdin*. That addition matters because the Super Nintendo game and the Genesis game are different works, made by different development teams, rather than two technically identical editions. Someone who played Aladdin on one console in the 1990s would not necessarily have played the same game as a friend who owned the other.

The two Disney releases illustrate a particular part of Nighthawk Interactive’s publishing work. Their appeal depends on preserving recognizable games while making their differences visible: console versions, handheld versions, revisions, and newly added play options can sit within one modern package. The 2021 collection also shows that Nighthawk returned to an existing release and broadened its contents, rather than treating the 2019 edition as the final word on those titles.

Nighthawk’s role in these projects was as publisher; Digital Eclipse handled development of the modern collections. That distinction is important when describing the organization’s work. The original Aladdin, Lion King, and Jungle Book games predate Nighthawk Interactive by decades. Its contribution was to publish modern releases that made those specific games available again and placed their differing versions in context.
