Straw Hat Pirates

The Straw Hat Pirates are the central pirate crew in Eiichiro Oda’s manga and anime One Piece. Their captain, Monkey D. Luffy, began the group in East Blue after setting out to become King of the Pirates. Luffy’s defining dream is to find the One Piece, the treasure left by Gol D. Roger, and he wears the straw hat entrusted to him by Shanks. The crew’s first ship was the Going Merry, a gift connected to Usopp’s friend Kaya; after its destruction at Enies Lobby, the shipwright Franky built the Thousand Sunny. The initial East Blue members were swordsman Roronoa Zoro, thief and navigator Nami, liar and sniper Usopp, and chef Sanji. Later recruits were doctor Tony Tony Chopper, archaeologist Nico Robin, cyborg shipwright Franky, musician Brook, and helmsman Jinbe, bringing the total to ten. Each has a stated ambition: Zoro seeks to surpass Dracule Mihawk; Nami wants to map the world; Usopp aims to become a brave warrior of the sea; Sanji searches for the All Blue; Chopper wants to cure every disease; Robin seeks the true history; Franky dreams of seeing his ship reach the end; Brook hopes to reunite with Laboon; Jinbe works toward coexistence between humans and fish-men. Their journey includes defeating Arlong in the Arlong Park arc, toppling Crocodile’s Baroque Works in Alabasta, declaring war on the World Government at Enies Lobby to rescue Robin, and escaping Thriller Bark after Brook joined. At Sabaody, Bartholomew Kuma scattered the crew; they trained separately for two years before reuniting. In the New World, they allied with Trafalgar Law against Donquixote Doflamingo, helped liberate Dressrosa, and formed the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, whose seven captains pledged allegiance to Luffy. The crew later invaded Whole Cake Island to retrieve Sanji from his political marriage to Charlotte Pudding and confronted Big Mom’s family. In Wano Country, they allied with the Heart Pirates, Kid Pirates, samurai, and minks against Kaido and Big Mom. Luffy awakened a Devil Fruit power identified as the Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and defeated Kaido. After Wano, the World Government recognized Luffy as one of the Four Emperors, and his bounty became 3,000,000,000 berries. Robin’s ability to read Poneglyphs makes the crew’s search for Laugh Tale especially consequential. Their current route has brought them to Egghead, where they encountered Dr. Vegapunk, the World Government scientist targeted by CP0 and Marines on the island.
