True Damage is a fictional hip-hop group created by Riot Games for the League of Legends universe. It debuted with “GIANTS,” a single released on November 10, 2019, alongside the World Championship final in Paris. The project followed Riot’s earlier virtual acts K/DA and Pentakill, but its sound and visual identity centered on contemporary hip-hop rather than K/DA’s K-pop concept. In League lore, the performers are champions Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, and Yasuo, each presented through a deliberately stylized streetwear aesthetic. “GIANTS” combines English, Spanish, and Korean vocals, reflecting the multinational cast behind the recording and its multilingual production style.
The 2019 Worlds performance made True Damage unusually visible beyond a conventional game soundtrack. At the opening ceremony, augmented-reality imagery placed animated champions beside live performers on the stage. Keke Palmer voiced and performed for Senna, Duckwrth represented Ekko, Thutmose represented Yasuo, Becky G represented Qiyana, and Jeon “Soyeon” So-yeon of (G)I-DLE returned as Akali. Soyeon had previously performed Riot’s K/DA song “POP/STARS” in 2018, so Akali became a connective figure between the two projects. The ceremony’s production used visual effects and projections to merge the fictional lineup with the artists, a format Riot had refined through its esports broadcasts.
“GIANTS” is structured as a multilingual collaboration rather than a single-singer showcase. Its chorus repeats the assertive “We’re taking over,” while verses move among rap, melodic singing, and language changes. Soyeon’s Akali sections include Korean, and Becky G’s Qiyana contribution includes Spanish. The music video expands its narrative with neon city imagery and animation, introducing True Damage as a group with its own fashion and attitude. Riot released champion skins based on the project: True Damage Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, and Prestige True Damage Qiyana. The skins linked those designs to playable champions, allowing players to use them in matches.
True Damage did not develop a long discography or a conventional touring career; its documented output is concentrated around “GIANTS,” the Worlds appearance, the video, and related in-game content. That limited scope is important to understanding the project. It was designed as a cross-media extension of League of Legends, with Riot coordinating music, animation, esports staging, character lore, and purchasable cosmetics. The group’s members therefore exist on two levels: fictional champions with established abilities and backstories, and a carefully cast set of recording artists whose performances supply their voices. Its defining achievement was the 2019 Worlds music launch in Paris.
