Een controledeck dat tot doel heeft de manabasis van de tegenstander te verstoren en zijn spelplan te vertragen, zou baat hebben bij het gebruik van Mana Short in Magic: the Gathering. Hoewel Mana Short in bepaalde situaties effectief kan zijn, zijn er betere alternatieven zoals Time Stop, die niet alleen het land van de tegenstander aanraakt, maar ook zijn beurt beëindigt, wat voor een impactvollere verstoring zorgt. Over het algemeen zou Mana Short kunnen worden gespeeld in specifieke metagames waarbij het verstoren van mana cruciaal is, maar de effectiviteit ervan kan variëren afhankelijk van de strategie van het kaartspel en het algemene spelplan.

Since this is an instant, your opponent may use instants in response to the casting of this spell. Note that such spells and abilities will be resolved before the mana pool is emptied by the Mana Short. This makes it useless as a countermeasure for spells. To use it effectively, you need to use it during Upkeep and even then it will not prevent the use of instant spells and abilities.
