Introduction

Today, we'll show you how to play Volibear Relentless Storm (Fury & Body). It is definitely not one of the best lists overall, but it is incredibly strong in the 4x4 format!

In any case, this particular list is possibly the best way to build this Legend, according to the community. As a whole, it gives up a lot of advantage early on. In the end, however, it has the most explosive late game in the entire game.

Before we begin, however, let me introduce myself. My name is Total, and I used to cast Legends of Runeterra tournaments professionally. I covered all the official tournaments, including Worlds, and I am known for creating deck guides for LoR as well. Now, I am a part of the Riftbound community!

Volibear Relentless Storm - Fury Body

The main idea behind this list is to ramp as many runes as we possibly can early on so that we can play Dazzling Aurora as soon as possible. Once this card is in play, the deck practically runs by itself. It will give us a gigantic unit for free each turn.

This particular build plays a few 5-cost units that are safe picks in the mid-game and don't make us give up any tempo.

The rest of the list is spells that deal damage directly or that force units to fight.

Legend - Volibear Relentless Storm

Volibear Relentless Storm is the only ramp Legend as of now. He has an active effect: whenever we play on the board a unit with 5 or more Power, we may draw 1 rune, exhausted.

He will be our main source of ramp, but we can only play units with 5 or more power after turn 3 if we're playing first, or turn 2 if we're playing second.

Because of the way this deck needs to be built, we won't always be able to play these units on these specific turns. This is one of the reasons why Volibear Relentless Storm isn't considered that strong in the meta.

Decks with this Legend are considered inconsistent. They involve a lot of RNG because of the way Dazzling Aurora works.

Still, this list in particular gained notoriety for "fixing" some of these inconsistencies with a few cards we'll discuss next.

Main Champion - Volibear - Furious

The main champion in our champion zone is Volibear - Furious, which is very powerful and explosive in the late game.

The idea behind this card is to be a strong attacker at the end of the game. His effect deals 5 damage split among all enemy units in the battlefield he is in. This means Volibear - Furious deals 14 damage when he attacks, if we add that 5 damage to his power.

14 damage is a lot. In fact, many lists nowadays can't handle all that power. Furthermore, he has Deflect 2, so, if the opponent tries to remove him with spells, they'll have to recycle 2 runes.

The only downside is that we can only play this card at the end of the match. To get as much as we can from him, we must also play Confront on the same turn. Without Confront, Volibear - Furious is just too slow.

Battlefields

Aspirant’s Climb is our main battlefield. It'll delay the game overall, as it forces players to get 9 points to win. This will be great for us because our deck takes a while to get going.

Sigil of The Storm also slows down the game. Whenever someone conquers this battlefield, they have to recycle a rune. Our deck, however, is one of the few that can conquer this battlefield without losing a lot in the process. This should be an uninteresting battlefield for our opponent, as well as a way to force them to focus on another battlefield.

Startipped Peak is great in this list, but only against slower decks. Playing this battlefield against faster decks is terrible and could lose us the game on the spot.

Main Cards

Early Game

Mobilize is our turn 1 ramp card. We must mulligan after it.

Catalyst of Aeons is our turn 2 ramp card. It is super straightforward and practical.

Void Seeker is an early game removal. It lets us remove key enemy units, like a Ravenbloom Student.

Mid Game

Blazing Scorcher is a Mighty unit (+5 power) that comes into play ready. Besides ramping with our Legend, it allows us to conquer or compete with our opponent for battlefields.

Carnivorous Snapvine, just like Blazing Scorcher, is also a Mighty unit that allows us to "fight" for battlefields controlled by our opponent.

Miss Fortune - Captain can come into play ready and is also a Mighty unit. When she first moves each turn, she lets us ready anything that is exhausted. This makes an array of combos possible, so we must play her after we already put a few units in play.

Late Game

This deck only plays one win condition: Dazzling Aurora. Late game cards are often big and powerful, but they're also slow and expensive. So, even though we'll have resources to play them, it will be hard to compete with our opponent in the late game for value. Even after we ramp many runes.

Dazzling Aurora is a Gear with a passive effect. At the end of each turn, it reveals cards from the top of our deck until it reveals a unit. Then, that unit goes into play for free. Simple and powerful, don't you think?

The main cards we want to play with Aurora are:

Volibear Imposing works like a "comeback" card. He is a wall of stats, so he'll definitely hold off the opponent. This is the best card to end the match and check mate the opponent.

Deadbloom Predator is the best unit we can get from Aurora. It goes into play and immediately attacks a battlefield our opponent controls.

Kadregrin the Infernal is a stat stick that draws cards. It is a solid card that fills our hand at the end of the match.

Important Tips

One famous strategy we can set up with this deck is "Kamikaze Deadbloom". This means playing Deadbloom Predator in a battlefield our opponent controls on purpose so that it dies, on purpose. This will "exhaust" the opponent's resources, as they'll have to spend something to answer it. We won't spend anything important doing this, but our opponent will most likely lose a few units or spells in the process.

We can use our Legend's signature spell, Stormbringer, on practically any unit we have. Don't wait to use it on a unit that has a lot of power. We can use it on Blazing Scorcher, for instance, to destroy enemies in the mid game.

If you can't find Aurora, play your Void Seekers and Disintegrates straight away to try to draw it.

Prioritize Aspirant's Climb because it is the best battlefield in this strategy.

Only play Volibear - Furious if you have Confront or if it is an emergency. We can't put this card into play with Aurora, so it costs a lot more than the other units in this list.

Brynhir Thundersong prevents the opponent from playing cards when she enters play. This is often essential, particularly against decks that play lots of reactions and actions.

Ideally, you should play Brynhir Thundersong from your hand and attack with other units immediately afterward so that the opponent can't answer.
