A new Star Wars TCG is on the horizon! Lucasfilm is partnering with Asmodee and Fantasy Flight to bring another TCG into reality. The game, titled Star Wars: Unlimited, has reportedly been in development for three years as of this year, 2023, and will supposedly be released between the end of 2023 and 2024. On May 4th, Fantasy Flight issued a press release to announce Unlimited and promote the new features of this TCG adventure.

"[It is] a fast-paced, dynamic game that is both easy to learn and strategically deep, [featuring figures from] movies, TV series, comics, video games, and everything in between."

Fantasy Flight Games has a past in the world of TCGs, namely with Keyforge, Android: Netrunner, and the closed card game Arkham Horror: The Card Game, and has even already worked with the Star Wars IP before, in Star Wars: Destiny, the previous TCG released for that universe, Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game and Star Wars: Imperial Assault. Though some of these titles had sad fates, being either sold to other companies or abandoned altogether, Fantasy Flight Games has ensured fans this time it will be different, and Star Wars will finally be a big name in the TCG world.

Ensuring every type of fan finds its place in Star Wars: Unlimited is one of the priorities:

"Ensuring this game was accessible to all players was key for us, so whether you are a casual player, competitor, or collector, there’s something for everyone in this game. Straightforward mechanics are the driving force behind the design. It’s clean and concise with no gimmicks – a card game in its purest form." - Jim Cartwright, Product Strategy for Fantasy Flight Games.

According to the press release, Organized Play, a platform that is used to support tabletop board and role-playing games, will be fully integrated in the new game. Further details about the schedule of expansions were also revealed, with the company making public Unlimited would have three sets per year. For collector fans, there will also be "alternate cards and special treatments".

“Star Wars: Unlimited is the culmination of FFG’s rich history mixed with the celebrated Star Wars brand. As a studio, we are putting unprecedented resources across every department into this game. We could not be more excited to get this out into the world for everyone to experience. We can’t wait to show you more.”

- Chris Gerber, Fantasy Flight Games Head of Studio.

This release is just another step in the so-called "TCG Boom" in 2023. Star Wars: Unlimited will have to compete with new TCGs such as Disney's Lorcanalink outside website and old ones such as Magic: The Gathering (which is hyping up sets together with Doctor Wholink outside website and Lord of the Ringslink outside website), Pokémon TCG and Yu-Gi-Oh!.
